Advising
The Academic Advisor for all undergraduate students in the School of Recreation, Health, and Tourism is:
- Dr. Cindy Waddell
Bull Run Hall 201
Prince William Campus
(703) 993-4160
cwaddell@gmu.edu
Students should meet with Dr. Waddell regularly to plan and adjust academic schedules and to prepare for any required internship experiences.
Students also can monitor their academic progress on Patriot Web. The self service website offers Mason students the opportunity to see their weekly schedule in calendar form; view their academic transcript; and monitor a degree evaluation that shows them what courses they still need to satisfy general education and professional concentration requirements.
Students in Exercise Science (EXS) and Health Promotion (HPR) benefit from the long-term and applied experience of faculty members. Each faculty member welcomes the opportunity to talk with students about their career interests, and opportunities to apply the learnings gathered during the coursework, internship, and out-of-class experiences. The diverse background and current applications of RHT faculty can help students to learn about numerous real-world settings, and to about potential volunteer and career opportunities in the region and throughout the nation.
EXS and HPR faculty members will also work with students to develop an academic plan that will facilitate timely graduation.
The academic program is designed to provide students with breadth and depth of experience, with exposure to theoretical constructs as well as current applications. The Advising Checksheets (see below) are helpful tools for monitoring progress throughout the academic program. The Checksheet identifies General Education requirements and details the overall coursework and sequencing of courses necessary for completion of the undergraduate degree in EXS or HPR. They also provide brief descriptions of each of the academic courses, and identify any prerequisites.
* Academic Advising Forms (Checksheets) are available for each catalog year:
| 2007-08 HPR Checksheet | |
| 2008-09 HPR Checksheet | |
| 2009-10 HPR Checksheet |
Also available: Additional checksheets for all academic calendar years, in all RHT programs.
* Note that these Checksheets do not supersede the official degree requirements detailed in the corresponding year’s George Mason University Catalog.
