ASTL
Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a Physical Education Concentration
The Advanced Studies in Teaching and Learning (ASTL) Masters Degree Program is designed for practicing teachers with a minimum of one year of full time physical education teaching in schools. The MEd in Curriculum and Instruction is a 30 credit degree with 12 credits in the Education core and 18 credits in the Physical Education concentration. The Education core is organized in cohorts and is aligned with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), www.nbpts.org, to help teachers think and practice like board-certified teachers.
Admission information can be obtained from the George Mason Graduate School of Education's ASTL web site. Call 703-993-2650 or email astl@gmu.edu to obtain Information Session dates and locations.
The Physical Education Concentration can be completed as a stand-alone graduate certificate or as part of the MEd degree. Unlike the core, candidates can enter the concentration at any time during the two year sequence. Overall, the degree is designed to meet the specific needs of practicing teachers and can be completed in 3 years and up to a maximum of 6 years. Admission documentation is coordinated through the ASTL Office. The courses listed below within the degree program are not connected to teacher licensure.
