New Degree in Tourism and Events Management Approved
The Board of Visitors of George Mason University recently approved the establishment of a new undergraduate degree in Tourism and Events Management. Subject to final approval by the Universities accreditation authority, the new Bachelor of Science (Tourism and Events Management) will be available to students who complete requirements after the Fall 2008 semester.
The B.S. TEM degree requirements are no different than those for the current B.S. HFRR degree (with a concentration in TEM). There are several advantages to this significant development. One is that the more descriptive degree title will help TEM students to more appropriately and clearly promote themselves in a field that increasingly demands the type of specific education and training offered at Mason.
Additionally, interested students in the B.S. HFRR degree program may now declare TEM as a minor, just as interested B.S. TEM students will be able to declare a minor in Sport Management; Parks, Recreation and Leisure Studies; Health Promotion; or Exercise Science. Current B.S. HFRR (concentration in TEM) students will be advised directly on how they can switch from B.S. HFRR to the new B.S. TEM.
Sport Management
The Sport Management program has recently made a number of curriculum changes in an effort to bring courses more in line with the subject matter content required by the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM). Faculty in Sport Management are working towards program approval by NASSM at both the undergraduate and graduate levels of instruction.
