Admission to Parks and Outdoor Recreation (POR) and Therapeutic Recreation (TR)
Entering Freshmen and Transfer Students
Prospective POR or TR students must be admitted to George Mason University. Online application forms and additional information are available through the Admissions Office. As early as possible, admitted students should declare a B.S. degree in Health, Fitness and Recreation Resources (major code HFRR) with either POR or TR as their major option/concentration.
Declaring or Changing your Major Option/Concentration
Current Mason students may declare or change to a major option/concentration in Parks and Outdoor Recreation (POR) or Therapeutic Recreation (TR) by completing and submitting the Change/Declaration of Academic Program form. When completing the form, use ‘HFRR’ as the Major code, and either ‘POR’ or ‘TR’ as the Major/Option Concentration code. Circle ‘BS’ on the New Degree line. Mason students majoring in any program or concentration other than a B.S. in Health, Fitness and Recreation Resources can pursue a minor in Parks, Recreation, and Leisure Studies (PRLS) by submitting the Change/Declaration of Academic Program form. When completing this form, fill in the Declaration/Change of Minor section and use ‘PRLS’ as the Minor code.
