Sport Management
Internship and Field Experience
A significant advantage of George Mason’s Sport Management program
is the opportunity to gain practical experience, hone necessary skills,
and build practitioner networks through field experiences. The Sport Management
program requires participation in field experiences. At the undergraduate
level, a 3 credit hour practicum experience, and a 12 credit hour internship
are required.
Practical experience can be gained in any number of positions
in the sport industry, including but not limited to sales, marketing, public
relations, operations, facilities, and event management. In each of these
varied positions, the application of a variety of skills is necessary to
meet the challenges of employment in sport enterprises. Additionally, building
practitioner networks through contacts made during your internship can
prove invaluable in your career.
Previous Sport Management field placements
for George Mason interns have included the United States Olympic Committee,
Washington Sports and Entertainment (Wizards, Mystics, Verizon Center),
Octagon Worldwide, DC United (MLS Soccer), the Potomac Nationals, Capital
Football Associates, the Patriot Center, and George Mason Intercollegiate
Athletics, among many others.
