Tourism and Events Management

TEM Degree Requirements

TEM course requirementsThe Tourism and Events Management curriculum is a staged combination of general education and professional preparation courses and opportunities for advanced studies that accommodate the students’ individual interests.

To earn a Bachelor of Science in Tourism and Events Management, students must complete all General Education requirements (37 credits) and the TEM Core Courses listed below (64 credits).

TOUR 312 Ecotourism 3 credits
TOUR 330 Resort Management 3 credits
TOUR 340 Sustainable Tourism 3 credits
TOUR 352 Heritage and Cultural Tourism 3 credits
TOUR 362 Cultural and Environmental Interpretation 3 credits
TOUR 412 Tourism and Events Marketing 3 credits
TOUR 414 Tourism and Events Finance 3 credits
TOUR 420 Tourism Planning and Policy 3 credits

TOUR 190 Wedding Planning 3 credits
TOUR 210* Global Understanding through Travel and Tourism 3 credits
TOUR 221 Event Implementation and Evaluation 3 credits
TOUR 311* Women and Tourism 3 credits
TOUR 430 Tourism on Public Lands 3 credits
TOUR 480 Special Topics 3 credits
TOUR 499 Independent Study 1-3 credits

*May not be used for additional TEM credit AND General Education credit.

General electives of no more than 13 credits may also be used to fulfill the overall 120 credit requirement for the degree. Those electives and certain other general education courses may also help to fulfill requirements for one of Mason's many minor degree minors.

Consult the current George Mason University catalog for descriptions of courses and degree requirements. Students will be cleared for graduation using the degree requirements listed in the catalog year they matriculated into the TEM concentration.
