The School of Recreation, Health, and Tourism (SRHT) offers exciting, career-ready majors in dynamic fields such as athletic training, tourism and events management, health and physical education, kinesiology, sport management, and recreation management. SRHT features renowned faculty, cutting-edge research, six laboratories and centers, and a diverse student body of more than 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students each year. Each major requires one or more internship or clinical experiences, ensuring that students graduate not just with a transcript but with a resume that demonstrates their professional aptitude and skills.

Rho Phi Lambda symbolRho Phi Lambda is the national honor fraternity for Parks, Recreation, and Leisure Studies. The Mason chapter is Alpha Tau. Rho Phi Lambda recognizes students who have demonstrated excellence in academics, leadership, and service.

Membership Eligibility

In order to be inducted into this fraternity, students must meet the following requirements:

Undergraduate students must:

  • Rank in the upper 15% of Parks and Outdoor Recreation or Therapeutic Recreation (POR/TR) concentration students at George Mason University or have a minimum overall grade point average of 3.0.
  • Rank in the top 15% of POR/TR concentration students at George Mason University for professional courses or have a 3.2 GPA in PRLS/TR professional courses.
  • Have completed 45 semester hours with 9 semester hours of professional courses.
  • Have demonstrated substantial evidence of outstanding leadership.
  • Have demonstrated substantial evidence of service to campus and/or community.

Graduate students must:

  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 and completed 9 semester hours.
  • Have demonstrated substantial evidence of outstanding leadership.
  • Have demonstrated substantial evidence of service to campus and/or community.

Eligible students will be notified about membership and induction procedures.
